Participating institutions will receive a package from CIPSSE staff that includes survey questionnaires, Informed Consent statements, and an instructional packet with directions for promoting the project, administration protocols, collection of questionnaires, and a return mailing label. Each institution will determine who is eligible to participate in the CIPSSE administration as there may be reasons that an enrolled student might be excluded from participating such as enrollment changes or program withdrawal. Students may also be absent from the survey administration due to illness or disciplinary action. Institutions will promote participation indirectly through posted advertisements or through class announcements, conveying that the results are important for institutional improvement and participation is voluntary. A school official or listed research personnel will administer the questionnaire to students following the approved IRB protocols. The form will take about 30 minutes to complete, and participants will complete it only once.
The survey will be administered on paper at the participating CIP campuses. The specific locations of the survey administration will be determined by the CIP program staff but will likely take place in the students’ usual classroom settings. An Informed Consent Statement will be read to students before the administration and students will be given the consent statement on paper. To maintain confidentiality student names/signatures will not be collected. Administering officials will be instructed that they must not convey any message to the student, implicitly or explicitly, that they are required to complete the survey or that there is any penalty for non-completion. The student’s consent will be implied by submission of the completed questionnaire, and they are free to turn in a blank form if they do not consent to participation.
Although survey responses will be completed/collected on paper, research staff will hand-enter paper responses into an electronic Qualtrics survey form. No identifiable information (name, ID, etc.) will be collected on the paper survey form and thus will not be stored electronically. CIPSSE staff will use the collected data to create the deliverables described below.
